Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A Gold and enamel device 1 1/4 inch (3.18cm) in high overall blazoned as follows: Gules (Brick Red), on a bend sinister urdy Sable fimbriated Or a winged wheel of the last, in dexter chief two pick-axes saltirewise surmounted by a crank wheel Or. Attached from either side of the shield, a Gold scroll inscribed EXCELLENCE IN MOTION in Black.



Symbolism

Brick red and golden yellow are the colors associated with the Transportation Corps. The black bend resembles tire tracks and is edged gold to underscore the motto Excellence in Motion. The winged wheel is the traditional symbol of Army Transportation and represents swift movement to all areas of operations. Two pick-axes and crank wheel represent the mining industries of southeast Missouri, the location of the battalion. The pewter border represents multiple units molded into one.
